Uninstall AxoRouter from Linux
To remove AxoRouter from a Linux host, complete the following steps.
-
Log in to the AxoRouter host and stop Axolet first, so it can’t modify the AxoRouter configuration and restart services while you remove them:
Terminal window sudo systemctl disable --now axolet -
Disable the units that start AxoRouter services automatically, then stop the AxoRouter services:
Terminal window sudo systemctl disable --now axorouter-image-puller.service \ axorouter-wec.path axostore.path axorouter-resolver.path \ axorouter-logstore.path axorouter-rsigma.path axoflow-cloudconnector.path sudo systemctl stop axorouter axorouter-wec axostore axorouter-resolver \ axorouter-logstore axorouter-rsigma axoflow-cloudconnectorRemoving the packages stops the services as well. Stopping them first makes sure that nothing writes to the data directories while you remove them, and that Axolet doesn’t register the host again after you delete it from AxoConsole.
-
Delete the host from AxoConsole, so AxoConsole stops managing it.
- Open AxoConsole and select Routers. Alternatively, select
⌘/Ctrl + K, then enter the name of the host. - Select the name of the host.
- Select ⋮ Host Options > Delete.
- Select Delete and revoke. Revoking the host prevents it from registering again with its current identity. If you plan to reinstall on the same host later, select Delete to keep the registration.
- Open AxoConsole and select Routers. Alternatively, select
-
Remove the AxoRouter and Axolet packages:
-
On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and 9, AlmaLinux, and Rocky Linux:
sudo dnf remove axorouter axolet -
On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7:
sudo yum remove axorouter axolet -
On Debian and Ubuntu:
sudo apt remove axorouter axolet
Then reload the systemd configuration, so systemd drops the units of the removed packages:
Terminal window sudo systemctl daemon-reload -
-
Reclaim the disk space used by the AxoRouter container images:
Terminal window sudo podman system prune -a --volumesCAUTION:
This command removes every unused Podman container, image, and volume on the host, not only the ones of AxoRouter. If you run other Podman workloads on the host, remove the AxoRouter images individually instead (
sudo podman images, thensudo podman rmi <image-id>). -
(Optional) Delete the data and the configuration of AxoRouter. The packages don’t remove these files, so you can reinstall AxoRouter and keep its data.
CAUTION:
Hazard of data loss!
The following command permanently deletes all data stored on the host, including:
- the AxoStore data in
/var/lib/clickhouse, - the disk buffers of AxoRouter in
/var/lib/syslog-ng, and - the log store data (including the
warmandarchivedirectories) in/var/lib/logstore. Earlier AxoRouter versions store this data in/var/lib/syslog-ng/logstore.
Make sure that you don’t need this data before running the command.
If you’ve set custom locations during the installation (for example, using the
AXOSTORE_MOUNT,AXOROUTER_PERSIST_MOUNT,AXOROUTER_WEC_MOUNT,AXO_LOGSTORE_DATA_HOST_DIR,AXO_LOGSTORE_WARM_HOST_DIR, orAXO_LOGSTORE_ARCHIVE_HOST_DIRenvironment variables), delete those directories instead of the defaults. If you don’t plan to reinstall AxoRouter, run:
Terminal window sudo rm -rf /etc/axorouter /etc/axolet \ /var/lib/syslog-ng /var/lib/clickhouse /var/lib/logstore \ /var/lib/axorouter /var/lib/axoflow-cloudconnectorIf you’ve used custom configuration directories during the installation, the installer has also created systemd drop-in files. Delete them, then reload the systemd configuration:
Terminal window sudo rm -rf /etc/systemd/system/axorouter-logstore.path.d \ /etc/systemd/system/axorouter-wec.path.d \ /etc/containers/systemd/axorouter-wec.container.d sudo systemctl daemon-reloadIf you’ve accepted the installer’s offer to increase the UDP receive buffer size (
net.core.rmem_max), delete the setting as well. The original value is restored after the next reboot.Terminal window sudo rm -f /etc/sysctl.d/99-axolet.confIf you’ve configured AxoRouter to run as non-root, also delete the sudoers file you’ve created for it. Depending on which instructions you’ve followed, the file is called
axorouter,axolet, orconfigure-axoflow:Terminal window sudo rm -f /etc/sudoers.d/axorouter /etc/sudoers.d/axolet /etc/sudoers.d/configure-axoflow - the AxoStore data in
